Trayvon Martin was just 17 years old when he was shot dead on 26 February 2012, whilst walking home from a local shop having purchased a soft drink and a packet of Skittles. His killer, George Zimmermann, a self appointed neighbourhood watchman admitted to having killed Trayvon, claiming that he had felt 'threatened' by the teenager. Since the murder, police recordings of 911 calls made by eye-witnesses to the murder, and the harrowing call made to the police department from Zimmerman himself as he stalked the child - moments before gunning him down - have been made public, causing a public outrage that is sweeping across the world.

Despite his admission of the killing, Florida’s Sanford Police Department have not arrested or charged Zimmermann, who has found shelter in the state's stand your ground laws, which supposedly protect those who kill in 'self defence'. Now, more than four weeks on and despite a petition that has gathered over 2 million signatures, several marches and protests across America and a statement from amongst others, President Obama himself, Zimmerman still walks free.

Comedian Kevin Day said: “It beggars belief that in a country that calls itself the greatest
democracy in the world, a man can gun down an innocent child and take refuge in a law that allows a ludicrous claim of self defence. I fully support the campaign to bring the killer of Trayvon in front of a judge and jury to stand trial for his wicked crime.”

Former footballer Brendan Batson, said
“It is right that we all should seek justice for Trayvon Martin for the senseless taking of his life.  We should all be horrified at the lack of action by the police authorities to properly investigate this killing and condemn their stance in hiding behind the ‘stand your ground laws’.  Justice must prevail.”

We are ALL Trayvon Martin.
Make a stand this Saturday, for there can be no peace until justice has prevailed.
